Shop Saggar Pottery

Saggar Pottery - Saggar is a ten step in depth process for leaving organic matter to impress the outside of pottery. After a pot is thrown and trimmed a terra sigallate (an old roman recipe) is applied to greenware (dried pot) and carefully burnished three times using a leather cloth.

After the burnishing the pots are then fired in a kiln. The pottery is then wrapped in organic material such as apricots, bananas, coffee beans, pumpkin seeds, peach pits, iron oxides, steel wool, copper wire, avocado, and various greens. all this is then placed in a saggar pot (a closed vessel) and fired again.

after this is pulled from the kiln and allowed to cool; the pots are washed allowed to dry thoroughly, and then burnished three more times using beeswax and a leather cloth.

the end results are stunning. Saggar pieces are works of art. Saggar is truly decretive works of art!

*Saggar is non functional and is not used for food or water, it is simple ART!
